I've taken apart the battery case, (PSP-110, apparently), and it doesn't look like any of the batteries I've seen in the guides.
It looks the same as http://www.flickr.com/photos/15106812@N02/2759721888/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/15106812@N02/2758880941/ as far as I can tell, except my case is in english. (These aren't my pictures.)

Homebrew
Put that battery case back on! Homebrew is easy as hell, takes less than an hour and doesn't require you to take apart any hardware at all. You will need:
- A fully charged PSP - A memory stick - The Dattel Battery Service Tool - Rain's PSP Grader software - The official 5.00 firmware 1) Connect the PSP via USB, and copy-paste the contents of the memory stick into a new folder somewhere on your PC. The data will be wiped in the next step, so you'll need it all backed up. 2) Put the 5.00 firmware file in the same folder as the PSP Grader software, and then run the PSP Grader; make sure the PSP's memory stick is selected as the target location, tick 'Format Memory Stick', then 'Create Pandora Stick'. Wait until it's done, then turn off the PSP. The MMS is complete. 3) Take out the battery, clip it into the service tool. The right-hand light on the service tool should come on. Press the button on the service tool, the left light flips on. Your Pandora's Battery is complete! 4) Hold down the Left Trigger on the PSP and insert the battery. A menu should pop up on screen after a few seconds. Tell it to install the custom firmware, and you're done! Use your PSP as you normally would. If you download any homebrew apps, just connect the PSP to your PC using the USB cable, drop the app into the GAME folder and access it as you would any normal game. Most homebrew apps come in a folder marked PSP with the sub-folders already organised, so you can drop it straight on to the memory stick without having to navigate to the correct folder. As always, read any instructions first!

I think you'll find that CFW 5.50 is out now. Haven't tried it yet but it should work fine and be better.

Stop, Hammertime!

Are you experiencing the same issue with other games? It's likely to be a simple config/savegame corruption caused by turning off the console, or putting he PSP into standby when it is writing data (usually battery related).
If it is caused by different games, try using a new version of the firmware. Otherwise, may be worth getting on the dog and bone to Sony. |

Nope, it is just that game, and it's not the save data because I tried it with the memory stick removed as well.

Reinstall or update the firmware, see if that helps.

There is a veritable shit-ton of games on the PS Store (at least in the US) for the PSP. They've been adding about 10 new games a week and a lot of the big hitters for the system are already up there (Dissidia Final Fantasy for example). There are even some PSN exclusive games up there like Thexder Neo. Another thing you can do is download PSOne games through the store to play on the PSP so don't forget those. I'm unsure what EU has on the store but it should be somewhat similar to what the US has, in which case you have a lot to choose from.

I'm pretty tempted by a Go, but only once the price drops and someone gets homebrew up and running properly.

You'll be waiting a while then. I reckon Sony will have upped the security stuff by miles.
