Let's talk about cakes!
Making cakes has been something of a tradition at my place. Every birthday, we make our own cakes. Sometimes i let my mother think of something, sometimes i came up with a birthday cake idea.
This year i took it to an extreme: Rainbow cake with a black marshmallow fondant covering, so it looks like something not associated with rainbows. I had great help from my boyfriend, who baked about 5 out of 7 layers of different colored cake. Result: ![]() and: ![]() The aftermath: spending the night partying with a sugar crash, not being able to eat sugar without relapsing into a sugar crash for 36 hours, first green pee and fecal matter, then blue-ish grey urine, then bright yellow renal excrement. After about 1 day it was all back to normal for me! A good night's sleep and i could have a cup of coffee with sugar without relapsing into a sugar crash. We calculated this cake contained about 120 grams of sugar per serving. Which is more than enough! So, what kind of caeks have you people made? And don't say that the cake is a lie, i made pics so it happened. EDIT: wow, now i see we switched the yellow and orange layer... Why didn't i see this before?

It's all tray bakes at home at the moment, tasty out. I love fruit cakes of any variety(Christmas, tea brack etc.) as long as they don't have bits of peel, I hate bits of peel in things. This year for my Birthday(in September) I'm going to make a Plum Pudding around June, it's gonna be amazing

You've seen the cheesecake I most recently made, which may or may not qualify since it is not technically a 'cake' but rather a cheese-based pudding over graham-cracker-or-cookie-based 'pie' crust.
Nonetheless, I'll try to remember to take a picture of my own the next time I repeat it. I'm a bit limited on cake options, since I've gone on an as-close-to-gluten-free-as-possible diet.

Cake is my favourite food, the only exception being when people insist on putting vegetables in it, like carrot. I have never baked a cake (due to lack of a tin) but would like to step up from just making buns at some point in the future. Favourite kind of cake? Coffee cake, unquestionably. I bought one on Friday night to eat in the cinema. Then either warm chocolate fudge cake with cream, or non-fruity cheesecake after that (I can put up with fruity ones but chocolate and toffee etc are so much better).

i would love for mine and Smartie's wedding cake to look like that - kinda plain on the outside, but then an explosion of colour when you cut into it. it looks delicious

I'm sure bakeries can do that! And make it tastier, too! And by tastier i mean less sweet and more vanilla or whatever flavour you want :P

i think i'm more likely to make it myself than employ someone else to do it, i'm a bit of a control freak and no-one else will do it right!

I forgot to make a picture of the result, and it's almost gone, but i made a delicious cake last weekend.
I used the trimmings of my birthday rainbow cake as a base for a delicious cherry and cream cheese pie (not sure if this term is right for something that hasn't got a crust, but just a base) The trimmings: ![]() And the result (last 2 pieces): ![]()

No doubt cakes are one of the most popular food and all time favorite of many but what if the designs were eccentric, would you still eat it?
I wasn't allowed to the image link, as much as I want to, but you guys can search in Google use "weird cakes" as your keyword. [maybe you'll have second thoughts] |

My mum organised a surprise birthday cake for me last weekend, she picked a movie theme for me, hence the film reels, clapperboards, popcorn decorations etc, even a film of Reservoir Dogs (my favourite). I thought it was very cool so here is a picture:
