Opeth - "Death whispered a lullaby"

I've been reading some hilariously negative reviews of Damnation from cranky metalheads who didn't get exactly what they thought they should. Judging by the recent reviews on certain sites most of these guys must still hold an irrational grudge six years later.

Frankly, I think it's a brilliant album regardless of what genre it technically falls in.

Been listening to quite a lot of dubstep every fortnight or so, I go back to it. Just downloaded a lot of comedy stuff with funny samples and quite heavy bass (I was drifting out of the bassy stuff, into 2562, Joy Orbison etc for a bit):

I've got something against them for no real reason and should get over it, 'cause I'll probably meet them on the Newcastle scene at some point and don't want to hate them irrationally.

Yeah that's a choon! I can't remember if I saw Rusko at Bestival, but I know I missed Chase & Status 'cause we were coming into the Bollywood Tent to see Caspa, and everyone was buzzin (they played Rage Against The Machine at the end apparently).

But yeh best dubstep I've seen is Reso, Skream wasn't as good as I thought he'd be if I remember correctly, and gutted I missed Benga.

Fairport Convention - Meet on the Ledge

Can't wait for next year's Cropredy Convention when this song comes on, memories of my piano teacher, her husband, all of our odd friends and a load of randoms in a circle swaying and shouting along drunkenly. Friendliest festival ever, ever the people who look like they're going to punch anyone who talks to them come over and offer you a few tokes on the joint and offer to buy you a beer, makes me love humanity again when 20,000 people gather in some fields in oxfordshire and treat every stranger as a friend they don't know yet

Edit - I missed seeing Skream, Benga and Rusko at a club recently, soooo gutted about it, would have loved to hear Benga simply to appreciate the drop in Night properly, most speakers can't handle it properly it's so deep...

Hmm I dunno, I don't really like that track anymore, it's too standard/overplayed. I really like his new stuff, especially with Skream, and there are some epic tracks I keep coming back to from his album (3 Minutes, Pleasure, Crunked Up, 26 Basslines, Light Bulb). Nowadays I either listen to the furthest reaches of dubstep, like 2652 and Joy Orbison, or really well-done garagy stuff, or really really heavy grimey stuff. Nice.

Yeah, it gets on my nerves but I'd like to hear it on an epic sound system just the once....
