Question about Heat Sleeving

I have a serious question, I've been spending money left and right for heat shrink tubing kits, the real question is....... What do the sizes mean?

I mean I see 1/4" 1/8" 3/4" and so on, but what is the CORRECT size for the braided sleeving AND heat shrink tubing that I would be looking for? I want to sleeve pretty much my whole entire computer so if you can help me by telling me what the sizes are all together or are they all the same, such as the power supply wires, and others. Is it true that it is risky taking apart a power supply, like it carries that electricity still in it even if it's unplugged just like a television? If not, it's still safe to take it apart and sleeve?

I really appreciate the help! Thanks!

And yes, no matter if your PSU is disconnected, it still has electricity in those two big capacitors, just be careful.

Oh that's really helpful. [/sarcasm]

To be honest it's trial and error with heat sleeving.

In general in order to sleeve twisted Molex cabling use whatever sleeving will fit and 9mm heatshrink.

Use Broad sleeving and 20-25mm heatshrink for ATX power cables.
To sleeve Floppy lines then use narrow (4mm) sleeving and 6mm hreatshrink.

If you want to sleeve ribbon cabble (Goodluck) then broad sleeving and 20mm heatshrink would be best.

That's what I did. hope this helps.

@Skylined: Try being helpful instead of condescending, not everyone is skilled with the search function.
