Favourite Albums of the Year So Far (why not)
The halfway point of the year is coming up in a couple of days (literally), and I noticed that a few days ago NPR produced a list of 25 favourite albums of the year so far to roughly coincide: http://www.npr.org/2012/06/08/154600...of-2012-so-far
My first observation: I had heard absolutely none of these. Admittedly only one is within my wheelhouse (Pallbearer's Sorrow and Extinction) and I have since bought it. It's a great pick if you're into either early Black Sabbath or the 90's Southern Californian stoner-doom rock/metal scene that itself was heavily influenced by early Sabbath... Anyway, NPR followed this up with a website reader poll then aggregated the top picks by their audience - expanded to 100 because apparently there were many many more than 100 (unspurprising) that met whatever threshhold for votes that they secretly set: http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/20...-albums-so-far NPR's website-using audience disappointed me in a way not even Lars Gotrich (token metal blogger) and the editors do every time they allow him to contribute a single NWOAHM title (see Pallbearer, above) to contributor lists: readers/listeners had four times as many opportunities and still only came up with one. Though to be fair (barely), they did manage to match a few of my non-metal favourites somewhere after 50 on the list. So I'm currently writing my own for an as-yet-unspecified blog post, and in the interim thought I'd see if there are enough lurkers to get a discussion going. Has anyone heard much from either of the above lists, and want to weigh in on whether or not they'd consider them worthy of being on a list of either length?

I've heard of two of those albums.. Jack Whites is pretty good, but I love Grimes Visions, if anyone ain't listened to that album yet and is need of a good chill out, slap it on (Check her on Later). But no mentions for Meshuggah, Joe Walsh or Slash? Guess variety is dead lol. I want to check out Santigolds album, she was amazing with the beasties, which came out earlier this year. And its a shame Plan B's album ain't out yet (Was delayed and should now be coming out sometime in July), that would have def been on there, the single Ill Manors was one of the best protest songs I've heard in years so looking forward to that.
Soundgarden have gotten a new album out soon, that they keep banging on about how amazing it is, and Skunk Anansie are putting the finishing touches on one, so the end of the year should be better Last edited by Codgin; 01-07-2012 at 09:01 AM.. |

There is a good list of music albums for this year.
Some of are mine favorite like Billy Hart, 'All Our Reasons and also think it is better if Beach House have a place in it. |
