I've been visiting daily for the past few weeks, and the last time i saw a new post was a few days ago.

I'm one of the few who has maintained a presence here nearly every single day since my joining date, even throughout the decline of the last year or two, but since I now see no point in posting in the Last Film You Watched thread, I would say that this is the end.

I don't want it to die either, if we can get some sort of discussion going about anything really to entice the masses back.
I'll give it CPR if I have to! None of that wimpy Vinny Jones stuff. I'm gonna put my tongue right up in this bitch ![]()

If a forum is being almost single-handedly kept alive by the same small handful of users (I'm a relative newcomer here but I can list most of you from memory, such is my familiarity with your names) then it's not really a forum, more like a club.
Recent new threads (hideous spam notwithstanding) haven't exactly been earth-shatteringly interesting, and discussions in areas I'm interested in tend to involve replies by the same people every time. Incidentally, I think one of the more insidious reasons for declines in forums like this one isn't just the mobile / social market, it's the fact that you have to register to comment and create threads. Why go to the trouble of creating an actual identity for yourself when you can go onto YouTube and post vile hatred and bile with complete anonymity using an account that took ten seconds to create? 100 million Youtube commenters can't all be wrong. Right? On a related note, I've been posting on a support forum for a game I play on my phone, and it's terrifying to see. A good 90% of the people posting have clearly never used a forum or any sort of posting system in their lives, their pleas for help are incoherent, incomplete and nonsensical, and they all seem to have this powerful sense of self-righteous entitlement, along the lines of "how dare you make this free game not do what I want?" There's a whole new generation of users joining the internet community, with no prior experience and no concept of how anything works, or how other people should be treated. For someone like me who's been here since day one, it just makes me more and more angry and drives me further and further away. I closed my Facebook account last week. As soon as a webcomic I follow moves back to its own website I'm gonna close my Google+ as well. |

It's a shame it's come to the state it's in now but there's not a lot you can do to encourage people back considering the alternatives. Seems most forums that are around now are a lot more hostile and full of trolls than I remember this one being, never really found a good replacement it since the activity died down.
It was a fun place to be when it was in it's prime but the mainsite is probably better off linking to some sort of facebook page than here anymore. |

Unfortunately, even though I haven't been a member of this forum for half the time other members have been present here, I do want to say this:
I was thinking about this subject the other day - even before I had seen this thread. I had noticed the decline in regular posts and I hadn't seen the 'Frontpage Foibles' updated in ages, even though there had been many new videos by weebl. I don't want to see this forum to grind to a slow death, although that's what many of us have been seeing. This in turn reminded me of the brilliant YouTuber Stuart Ashens (ashens on YouTube); I had been a member of his forums for quite a few months, but I think one day he finally realised that his forums had become so... generic, was it really worth keeping it? You do have to pay to run a forum and you do need mods to keep it up and running. I think Ashens decided that, without sounding selfish, it wasn't really about him or his channel any more. A community: not a forum. He wasn't really getting any new members and the discussions on there were rarely about his own work. One day upon logging in to his forums I discovered that Ashens had finally decided enough was enough - turns out he was moving the forum away from his own (paid) hosting and decided to host the board for free somewhere else (I think on zetaboard's own service), before completely renaming the board. Now, his forum still remains however under a completely different (unrelated) board name and he doesn't have to worry about it any longer. I do wonder whether this is worth considering? Is this forum really about weebl any more? Any forumites here use reddit? I use reddit so much now and wonder whether it's worth joining (or even creating) a weebl subreddit. Just throwing that out there.

Shame, but probably time for it to go to be honest.
I also am an avid redditor and had thought of a weebl sub-reddit, not sure it would work but it would be cool. |

Glad to see there's at least some interest in reddit. I've just made a /r/weebl subreddit, which is still very much in the works but I thought I might as well reserve it just so we've got something else to discuss Weebl's Stuff on, should this forum (regrettably) close.
If there's enough interest, there's nothing stopping us from creating a private subreddit just for this forum's members. Again, this would be dependent on whether this forum closed and if there were actually any forumites on reddit. I'm definitely not trying to preach the powers of reddit or anything like that, but I wouldn't be surprised if Weebl did pull the plug on this forum one day - and I don't want it to end so abruptly. Weebl has actually done an AMA on reddit some years back, and it's also a platform that would allow us to have regular conversation, just like with General Pap. I think there's a larger sense of community on reddit rather than just Twitter or Facebook groups. So, make of that what you will. In my heart of hearts I really don't want to see this forum go, but I'd also hate to see it dwindle.

Wow this place really has died on its arse.
I spent many a good time here but people grow up. They go to university/get jobs/get married/have kids. It's just how it goes. This forum had its popular phase between 2004-2008 but the vast majority of those who made it such a fun place have moved on. That's not to say that those who have stayed aren't fun either. It just happens that the party had reached the 5am phase whereby it's almost finished by the time you guys turned up. It's a shame in a way as you could have been part of the glory years but, like I keep saying, things change and people move on. I'm sure in the future people will be saying the same about facebook, twitter and tumblr once the next big fad comes around. |
